#SgMemory Nostalgia Tour, conducted by the Singapore Memory Project

Last Saturday, a multitude of tweets and instagram photos were uploaded with the #SgMemory hashtag, adding to the library of over 5000 photos (now 8,900 and counting). Five bloggers, armed with cameras, smartphones, and a ravenous appetite, set out on a Nostalgia Tour to some of the most enduring food establishments in Singapore with rich histories to boot. Even the gray skies and threats of thunderstorm could not dampen our high spirits.

The #SgMemory hashtag can be used on anything Singapore-related, and need not feature anything ‘retro’ or dated. The purpose of this hash tag is to establish a gallery of images for the future generations to look at, and for us to look back on. Continue reading

21 on Rajah at Days Hotel Singapore, Zhongshan Park

Nestled along the stretch of Balestier Road – where the ample choices of local food allure you with the wafting fragrance exuding through door-less coffee shops – a juxtaposingly ravishing dining option awaits at the comforts of Days Hotel Singapore.

Stroll in to 21 on Rajah, where a soothing sanctuary provides you with the cooling comfort of air conditioning to beat the excessive humidity and heat. Dine leisurely and unhurriedly in the spacious and modish setting that accommodates to large crowds during peak hours, beating the overwhelming masses at the neighbouring sweaty joints.

This restaurant is one-of-its-kind at the Balestier precinct. The number “21” in its appellation represents the 21 Mediterranean countries; its menu is immensely inspired by Mediterranean flavours and local favourites, highlighting the concept of “family communal dining”. Continue reading

TOAST BOX collaborates with ABLE for “LIM KOPI for a Cause”

Toast Box unveils a new promotional menu in conjunction with a charity drive to raise funds for ABLE (Abilities Beyond Limitations and Expectations Ltd).

ABLE is a charity organisation that strives to enable and empower the physically challenged community to be reintegrated into the mainstream society in Singapore to live a productive, meaningful and independent life.

We are often overwhelmed by materialistic desires or little hurdles in life – such as scrimping and saving just to buy the latest gadget, splurging on the newly launched limited edition Chanel handbag, or struggling to meet demanding bosses’ expectation, worrying about not paying the bills on time, et cetera – that we have forgotten that there are many others out there who need our love and care.

With the “LIM KOPI for a Cause” campaign, you can delight in Toast Box’s new Thick Toast offerings – that are available at all Toast Box outlets island wide – while at the same time do your part for charity, without having to carve time out of your hectic schedules and commitments.

Yong Soon You Tiao

You Tiao ($0.90 per piece)

Have breakfast anytime of the day at Food Republic; You Tiao (dough fritters) is a popular breakfast item, usually paired with porridge or soya bean milk. Yong Soon You Tiao renders it just the way I like it –crispy, not too greasy, and not too chewy. It is best eaten hot.

The dough fritters are certified Halal to cater to the Muslim crowd. YAY!
