(Dining at SAFRA) Ishi Mura Express –Affordable and Tasty Japanese Meals

Ishi Mura Express is a subsidiary of Ishi Mura Japanese Foodstreet, and as its name suggests, it presents itself as a Japanese fast food joint, providing a convenient and quick solution to rumbling tummies –especially after an intensive day of fun-filled activities at SAFRA Club.

The most attractive aspect of this eatery is its unbeatable pricing. It is indisputably the cheapest option in SAFRA Jurong Club, and possibly one of the cheapest dining options in Singapore for Japanese meals.

The menu spans across four categories: bento sets, donburi, omu rice, sushi, and ramen & curry don.

Saba Teriyaki Bento ($6)

Bento options include the Saba Teriyaki, Teriyaki Chicken ($6), Unagi ($8.50), Chicken Katsu ($6), Pork Katsu ($6), and Chicken Katsu & Yakiniku Beef ($7).

For those working or schooling in the vicinity, you’re in for a treat. Bento sets are affordably priced from $6, which includes a generous portion of rice, watermelon, chawanmushi and your choice of protein.

The Omu Rice sets are a highlight. Protein options include seafood, chicken/pork katsu, beef/pork yakiniku, teriyaki chicken steak and ebi & chicken katsu curry.

Omu Rice with Seafood Cream Sauce ($7)

Value for money, the Omu Rice with Seafood Cream Sauce comes with a huge omelette filled with Japanese rice, two strips of crisp breaded prawns, a fillet of salmon and a couple of molluscs –all for just $7.

Omu Rice with Chicken Katsu Curry ($5.20)

The Omu Rice with Chicken Katsu Curry gets my vote. Affordably priced at $5.20, you get a generous serving of rice-filled-omelette, breaded chicken, prawns and Japanese curry at the side for your dousing pleasures.

Char Siew Ramen ($5.90)

There are also sushi and sashimi priced from $1.40, and two ramen options. The ramen is nothing to shout about, but the char siew in particular caught my attention. Those hankering for fatty pork belly will have their eyes peeled on this.

Salmon Teriyaki Don ($5.90)

The Donburi meals truly arrested my heart and warrants return visits –it is pure comfort food, lunchbox-style. Choose from your favourite proteins, which include the salmon teriyaki, unatama, chicken/pork katsu, beef/pork yakiniku and teriyaki chicken.

Beef Yakiniku Don ($5.90)

The fragrance of caramelised onion, matched with a sheet of cooked beaten eggs that binds the protein and the rice, complemented by a subtly sweet and delectably savoury sauce –this gaiety for just $5.90.

Teriyaki Chicken Don ($5.20)

The Teriyaki Chicken Don was probably the only item I was truly disappointed with; for the meat turned out dry from overcooking.

Unatama Don ($6.90)

The Unatama Don is a personal favourite! You can never go wrong with Unagi here.

Chicken Katsu Curry Don ($4.90)

Another item worth ordering is the Chicken Katsu Curry Don. Reasonably priced at $4.90 here, a similar portion would set you back at least $7 at other Japanese fast food joints. Also ranking high on the tasty scale, the crisp breaded chicken with succulent meat, accompanied by delightfully-crusted egg, nestle on a heap of Japanese rice that’s doused in thick Japanese curry.
