(Mid-Autumn Festival 2013) Mooncakes from Crystal Jade

Stepping up its game this year, Crystal Jade wows us with the new limited-edition mooncake packaging that’s lavishly designed to resemble a treasure chest. The best part of this packaging is that once Mid-Autumn Festival is over, or rather as soon as the mooncakes are devoured, the trove can double as a jewellery box, and its sturdy material can last you years.

Mystical Treasure set ($89 for 4 pieces)

To own that gorgeous treasure chest, get the Mystical Treasure set that comes with four premium Gold Leaf Mooncakes: Gold Leaf White Lotus Paste with Double Yolk, Gold Leaf Red Lotus Paste with Double Yolk, Gold Leaf Plain White Lotus Paste, and Gold Leaf Mixed Nuts & Ham.

The Gold Leaf Mooncakes have taken on a new sheen, shimmering more ever compared to the past year’s edition. Check out my post on Crystal Jade’s range of mooncakes in year 2012 here: https://melicacy.com/?p=4685

My opinion on Crystal Jade’s Gold Leaf Mixed Nuts & Ham stands firm till date; it’s one of the few nut-laden mooncakes that my palate actually approves of.

If you find the Mystical Treasure set a tad extravagant, the Quartet of Happiness ($48/4 pieces) is a more casual option, comprising Plain White Lotus Paste, White Lotus Paste with Double Yolk, Red Lotus Paste with Double Yolk, and Mixed Nuts & Ham, packaged in a bright, colourful gift box.

The Piglet Pastry from Crystal Jade may not taste and look the same as the peasant version of the piglet-shaped mooncake that we used to love as kids, but it sure evokes lovely childhood memories for me.

This updated version of the piglet-shaped mooncake takes on a cute and stubby look, donning chocolate chips as eyes, and encasing lotus paste within for a luscious mouthfeel –it will surely be a huge hit with the kids!

The health-conscious and those watching their calorie intakes can go for Crystal Jade’s chilled selection of yogurt pudding mooncakes and konnyaku jelly mooncakes.

The Kindred Bliss ($22/4 pieces) is a selection of four fruity, yogurt pudding mooncakes that will appeal wildly to young diners. This set includes Mixed Berries Yogurt Mooncake Pudding, Mango Yogurt Mooncake Pudding, Soursop Yogurt Pudding Mooncake with Lychees, and Guava Yogurt Pudding Mooncake with Aloe Vera.

Tea lovers can go for the Floral Effulgence ($20/4 pieces), which features four Floral Tea Konnyaku Mooncakes –Osmanthus & Plum Konnyaku Mooncake, Chrysanthemum Honey Konnyaku Mooncake, Roselle & Hawthorn Konnyaku Mooncake, and the new Rose & Red Date Konnyaku Mooncake.

Another new addition to Crystal Jade’s selection of Floral Tea Konnyaku Mooncakes is the Snow Lotus Konnyaku Mooncake ($20/4 pieces), which I find appealingly refreshing and light on the palate.

Mooncakes are available at most Crystal Jade outlets from 5 August to 19 September 2013. Advance orders can be made three days prior to preferred collection date. Orders can be placed via the Crystal Jade Mooncake Hotline at , Mondays to Fridays, 9am – 6pm.
