From 6 to 22 September 2013, indulge in unlimited servings of Penang delights such as Char Kway Teow, Prawn Mee, Laksa, Lor Bak, Rojak, Cuttlefish Kang Kong, Oyster Omelette, Kway Teow Soup and Kway Teow Dry at the Penang Hawkers’ Fare at York Hotel.

These flavourful dishes are bound to reignite your memories from the great times in Penang.

Penang Laksa

The last time I tasted authentic Penang fare was several years ago during a short trip there; my cravings for Penang hawker fare has snowballed ever since.

York Hotel executes the Penang Char Kway Teow to rustic perfection. The charred fragrance (wok hei) is distinct and absolutely alluring, with each strand of noodle coated with enticing flavours. Fresh juicy cockles accompany this dish, which is a rare sight at buffet lines.

Kway Teow Soup

Fried Oyster Omelette is my favourite hawker food, ever, hands down. I suspect the chef cooking this is hugely influenced by the Singapore version though, because I couldn’t discern much of a difference. Be that as it may, it is still utterly delicious, and I couldn’t stop grabbing multiple servings.

Fruit Rojak

Lor Bak

The Lor Bak is a must-try. Ingredients such as beancurd, sweet potato and meat rolls (ngoh hiang) are battered and fried to a crisp crust. It is served with a thick braising sauce that elevates the taste dimension to a new high.

Prawn Noodle Soup

The Prawn Mee comes with fork-tender chunks of pork (needless to say the fattier part is especially tender), steeped in a rich prawn broth that doesn’t show obvious signs of being MSG-laden.

Complete your meal with popular desserts like Ice Kachang and Chendol.

The Ban Chang Kueh is another noteworthy dish. The live station itself draws a huge crowd, but it is the final product that warrants repeat visits.

The crust is thin and remains crispy for quite a long time.
