Enjoy smooth and unworried travels with new TravelAlert Service by DBS TravellerShield

Travel insurance is one of the most essential needs for smart travellers. DBS TravellerShield, a comprehensive travel insurance plan, recently expanded its offerings to give jet-setters more assistance with Singapore’s first ever complimentary Travel Alert Service. Travellers can now stay ahead of the unexpected with free situation updates during the trip.

My most recent trip was to Boracay in the Philippines –a tropical beach destination with temperamental weather.

Our journey to Boracay from Singapore included transfers from the airport to port and from one port to another port. Imagine if our luggage got lost along the way. Travel insurance would ease traveller’s concerns over losing their personal belongings during the trip.

Although weather forecasts were pessimistic when we checked a week before our trip, we were fortunate not to have experienced any rainstorm in the day. We went out to sea for snorkelling and diving activities, as well as island hopping and tanning on the beaches.

Lady luck did not shine on us on one night though; we experienced a huge downpour that had us cramped in the confines of a little souvenir shop in the middle of d’Mall, a popular night market on the island.

Should there had been the Travel Alert Service to inform us of the upcoming rainstorm, we wouldn’t have been caught off guard and would probably have spent that couple of hours sipping on hot mocha at a sheltered café while watching the rain drops race each other.

There are countless of unforeseen circumstances that could dampen your holiday spirit, but these incidents can be minimised if you are kept informed on important information about your travel destination on the go.

If you are constantly updated on the latest news, you can make changes to your itinerary spontaneously with alternative plans instead of wasting time avoiding adverse conditions.

The new Travel Alert Service by TravellerShield provides safety and security related information about your travel destination via SMS alerts. These alerts cover situations or incidents that may affect your travel plans, such as political unrest, war and terrorism, extreme weather, earthquakes and natural disasters, public transportation delays, riot, strikes, health-related information like outbreaks and contamination.

My most memorable sunrise experience was at the peak of Borobudur Temple in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Locals speak their native language widely, and most of them barely speak English unless they deal with tourists on a regular basis. Language is a huge barrier and communication is clearly an issue. Even getting a taxi is a chore. You don’t want to be unaware of important local news just because you don’t speak the local language. It’s easy to miss the news of unexpected events, so here’s where TravelAlert Service comes in handy.

It would’ve also been useful to find out of the weather conditions prior to taking the hours-long drive to the temple, and paying the $50-ish entry ticket. TravellerShield makes for a great protection against the unexpected.

TravelAlert Service is exclusive to the new TravellerShield Single Trip Premier Plan and Classic & Premier Annual Plan purchases via the DBS website or branches.

Also from now till 31 December 2013, if you purchase the above plans, you will get to enjoy 25% premium discount and get a free gift! Visit http://bit.ly/UnexpectedHoliday to find out more.

I miss Hong Kong tremendously! Think: food (dim sum), shopping, and DISNEYLAND!!!

I had such a great time with mum at Disneyland last June and I couldn’t bear to leave.

I’ll be heading down to have my photo taken at the booth! I mean, who doesn’t want to win a trip to Hong Kong right? I didn’t get to try all the rides at Hong Kong Disneyland during my previous trip and I really hope to visit again!
