House at Dempsey

Ensconced amidst lush foliage in a serene environ, House at Dempsey is not where one would typically take a pit stop at, but it is a destination worth travelling the distance for. The ambitiously massive venue spans 17,000 square feet of total ground area, encompassing an indoor and an outdoor café, four multi-function rooms and a bar.

Pumpkin Hazelnut Fries ($12)

Allow conversations to flow freely as you begin the meal by munching on these delectable Pumpkin Hazelnut Fries –straw-cut pumpkin fries coated in crunchy hazelnut, paprika and chilli powder, or the fragrant and delightfully crisp Truffle Taro Fries ($8) that are highly addictive as well.

Asparagus, Serrano Ham and Crumbed Egg ($24)

Egg-lovers will find innumerable pleasure in the starter of Asparagus, Serrano Ham and Crumbed Egg.

Encased in a crispy crumb coating, the perfectly poached egg flows with runny yolk as your knife pierces through.

Wagyu Spring Rolls ($26)

Crispy Wagyu roll marinated with maple and soy, paired with fresh salad.

Lamb Breast with Gentleman’s Relish ($24)

The Lamb Breast with Gentleman’s Relish is another standout in the starters department. Well-flavoured and approvingly tender lamb breast are coated with breadcrumbs and fried till golden crispiness. It is served with a light anchovy mayonnaise enhanced with tangy bursts of chopped capers.

Fish Basket ($32)

A school of battered white fish, seasoned prawns and calamari, served with thrice-cooked chips, creamy mushy peas and gribiche sauce.

Lamb Ragu Orecchiette ($28)

The Lamb Ragu Orecchiette is a refined take on the classic Bolognese. Slow-roasted lamb ragu is tossed with orecchiette pasta and scattered with fresh peas, mint and parsley. This dish is particularly memorable for me in pasta-eating history.

Lamb Rump with Spiced Cous Cous ($34)

Pan-seared roast lamb rump and Merguez sausage packed with a harissa kick, served with fluffy spiced cous cous.

Hanger Steak with Croquettes & Wild Mushrooms ($36)

The kitchen proves to be adept with meat, especially steak. The Hanger Steak with Croquettes & Wild Mushrooms is a must-try. Seared hanger steak, lean but rendered sumptuously moist and tender, reclines in pool of intensely-flavoured mushroom reduction, accompanied by two fingers of croquettes bursting with creamy ham béchamel.

Asian Sliders served with Crispy Taro Fries ($26)

Sentimental ones will find immense comfort in the Asian Sliders –a 20-year-old recipe brought to life. Prime pork belly cuts are tenderly and longingly braised in a concoction of premium soya sauce, Asian spices and a kick of chilli. The flavour is reminiscent of the pork belly dish my late grandparents used to cook when I was little –or should I say even better. Tuck the meat in steaming hot buns and be reminded of childhood days.

Pandan Jelly Sponge ($6), Warm Strawberry Shortcake ($9.50), Warm Chocolate Toffee Cake ($9.50)

Prolong the meal with sweet treats such as the Warm Chocolate Toffee Cake ($9.50) that’s moist and rich of toffee, the Warm Strawberry Shortcake ($9.50) that echoes bread pudding in texture, or the Pandan Jelly Sponge ($6), an inventive dessert comprising pandan jelly, almond cream, black rice and toasted almonds.
