Penang Hawkers’ Fare at York Hotel (13 December 2013 to 1 January 2014)

York Hotel’s well-liked Penang Hawkers’ Fare is back! Launched in 1986, this highly popular food promotion happens thrice a year, in March, September and December. From 13 December 2013 till 1 January 2014, indulge in unlimited portions of Penang street food such as Char Kway Teow, Prawn Mee, Penang Laksa, Lor Bak, Rojak, Cuttlefish Kang Kong, Oyster Omelette, Ban Chang Kueh, Kway Teow Soup and Kway Teow Dry.

Still loving the Char Kway Teow. It’s consistently delicious, like how I remember it to be when I tasted it previously.

When I first tasted Penang Laksa somewhere in Penang, I didn’t like it one bit. The tanginess didn’t appeal to me, and I was dismayed by the lack of coconut richness. It was only after several encounters with this dish that I soon grew to enjoy and appreciate it more. The version here at York Hotel’s Penang Hawkers’ Fare is thoroughly satisfying!

My all time favourite hawker food has got to be fried oyster omelette without a doubt! I could hardly contain my enthusiasm, and ended up going for rounds after rounds of this dish without getting bored of it. Don’t even try to remind me of how much calories I’d consumed.

We also ordered the Fish Head Curry ($28 for half, $42 for whole) from the a la carte menu, because it’s simply irresistible. The portion of the fish is mighty, feeding a table of 5 amply. Fresh, tender and meaty. I think I can finish the entire portion by myself. *meow* I could even drink the curry like soup!

The Fish Head Curry is part of the ‘Treasured Flavours of Singapore’ menu that I did a review on early this year. Read more about the menu here: https://melicacy.com/?p=5912
