Weekend Brunch at Violet Oon’s Kitchen

Vietnamese Pulled Pork Burrito ($18)

Violet Oon’s Kitchen is one of my favourite Peranakan-themed restaurants of all time, starring renowned food specialist and chef Violet Oon. As Singapore’s Food Ambassador, Violet Oon often represents Singapore in various significant events abroad. She is known for her cooking as well as her opinions on food, earning a glowing reputation that spans the international arena.

A weekend brunch menu was introduced in June 2013, giving you more reasons to unwind at Violet Oon’s Kitchen on leisure days. Available from 9.30am till 3pm, the brunch menu is where age-old traditions meet creativity. Those hankering for Violet Oon’s time-honoured Peranakan dishes can still order from the regular lunch menu from 11.30am till 3pm.

Nutella Quesadilla ($6)

A perfect way to kick-start the meal would be with the Nutella Quesadilla, stimulating the appetite instantly with crusty browned tortilla and luscious chocolaty-nutty richness of nutella enveloped snugly within.

Brioche French Toast with Gula Melaka Banana Sauce ($15)

Violet Oon gives the classic French toast her own twist by serving it with a sauce composed of caramelised bananas and dominated by gula Melaka. The thick fluffy and moist brioche, coated in golden yellow richness of egg, makes for the perfect dipping agent.

Asian Big Breakfast ($20)

The Asian Big Breakfast is one hearty item that would boost your faith in the pleasures of traditional comfort food, comprising otak otak, fried chicken wings, sambal egg Indonesia, nasi kunning, and an amalgamation of cucumber and ikan billis on the side. The western version, Traditional Big Breakfast, comprises eggs, sausage, bacon and baked beans.

Smoked Salmon Scramble Egg ($20)

Comfort food arrives in the form of moist and adequately runny scrambled eggs, comingled with smoked salmon that provides a pleasantly distinct saltiness.

Crab Cake Benedict ($23)

Brunch would never be complete without a mere mention of eggs Benedict.

Here, the Crab Cake Benedict is utterly irresistible. Sitting on an English muffin, the pan-fried New Orleans crab cake is topped with a perfectly wobbly poached egg and a requisite hollandaise sauce.

Otak Panini ($15)

The attention-seeking Otak Panini arrives in a towering sandwich piled up high with alternating layers of bread, sweet onion relish, melted Monterey Jack cheese, and chunky otak –a feast for both the eyes and stomach. Brace your appetites for this massive portion!

Specially concocted drinks include smoothies, sangria and mojito.
