(Mid-Autumn Festival 2014) East Ocean Teochew Restaurant

It feels like I’ve struck gold with the varieties of East Ocean Teochew Restaurant’s mooncakes I had, namely the Crispy Yam Mooncake with Whole Egg Yolk and the Mini White Lotus Paste Mooncake with Egg Yolk. Always the case, the epicentre of that coveted salted egg yolk instantly elevates the mooncake.

Mini White Lotus Paste Mooncake with Egg Yolk ($42 for 9 pcs)

Fans of salted egg yolk will be overjoyed with this version. Judging by the size of the (mini) mooncake, the ratio of salted egg yolk (in whole) to the white lotus paste is just desirable.

Crispy Yam Mooncake with Whole Egg Yolk ($54 for 5 pcs)

For a well-established Teochew restaurant, expectations are set at sky high for the standard of the traditional Teochew mooncakes. The Crispy Yam Mooncake with Whole Egg Yolk is expertly executed, bound to delight fans of the classic favourite. It is best consumed when purchased freshly out from the oven, still warm and fragrant, but still good when kept for several days.

Wish I could take another bite of it right now!

It comes in a box of 5, which in my situation was very quickly demolished.

Snowskin mooncake flavours include the conventional Mini Snow Skin White Lotus Paste Mooncake ($48 for 9 pcs), Snow Skin White Lotus Paste Mooncake with Whole Egg Yolk ($54 for 4 pcs/$30 for 2 pcs), Mini Snow Skin Green Tea Paste Mooncake ($48 for 9 pcs), the Mini Snow Skin Custard Mooncake ($48 for 9 pcs) that I’m pretty keen on trying, and the unorthodox Snow Skin Lemon Macaron Mooncake with Cranberries in Red Lorus Paste ($50 for 5 pcs).
