We continually get blown away by Peony Jade’s signature flaky Teochew ‘orh ni’ baked mooncake ever since its debut 5 years ago. (Read last year’s review here: https://melicacy.com/?p=6009) Attempting to steal the limelight from the award-winning signatures are novel creations that raise the bar each year. Expectations remain high.
Mini Snowskin Teochew Orh-Ni Pumpkin with Coconut Truffle Mooncake ($49.60 for a box of 8 pieces)
This year, Peony Jade takes the time-honoured Teochew Orh-Ni mooncake and gives it a novel spin with the Mini Snowskin Teochew Orh-Ni Pumpkin with Coconut Truffle Mooncake, densely packed with soothing layers of yam and pumpkin mash, with a sphere of coconut white chocolate truffle in the epicentre. This is ingenious.
Other new snowskin mooncakes include the Chocolate Salted Caramel Glaze Banana and Walnuts Mooncake, Fragrant Honey Williams Pears, Organic Apricot and Raspberry Mooncake, Black Thorn Durian Nyonya Mooncake in Coconut Mini Snowskin, and Silver Lotus Paste with “Gui-Hua” Cassia Flowers and Melon Seeds Mooncake.
Baked Prosperous Piggies with Silver Lotus Paste and Single Yolk ($52 for a box of 4)
What catches our attention this year is also the adorably shaped Baked Prosperous Piglet that’s filled with silver lotus paste, macadamia nuts and single yolk.
Durian devotees will look forward to the Top Grade Pure Mao Shan Wang Durian Mooncake in Organic Pandan Snow Skin, made using 100% premium and unadulterated bittersweet Cat Mountain King durian pulp from Pahang.
Peony Jade remains as one of the strongest player in the mooncake market in Singapore, bringing forth wide range of mooncakes that show great respect for tradition and showcasing their creative capabilities at the same time.
