Morganfield’s at The Star Vista

Morganfield’s wades into the ribs scene with a new spot at The Star Vista. The mall itself is a gastronomic shrine, with plenty of dining options –Morganfield’s, is the holy grail of ribs.

Their popularity is visible –just check out the snaking queue outside the restaurant on a Saturday night. You need to be patient on weekends if you’ve not made reservations.

The 180-seater restaurant sports a modern interior with rustic touches; they focus on using recycled materials such as recycled woods for the walls, repurposing zinc roofs for the pillars and fashioning chengai wood flooring into tables.

Berry Easy ($9.90 per glass, $23.90 per pitcher)

Before getting to the ribs, the nice range of coolers and cocktails serve well as appetite stimulants. The non-alcoholic Berry Easy – which I enjoyed – is a blend of black grapes, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries.

Crab & Spinach Dip ($12.90)

Crab meat and baby spinach cooked with Parmesan cheese, served with corn tortilla chips

For starters, the Crab & Spinach Dip is highly recommended.

Nicely creamy with chunks of crabmeat within, even non-veggie lovers will dig this without a grouse.

Chilli Cheese Fries ($12.90)

Fries baked with cheese, topped with bacon bits and served with chilli con carne

Russet Potato Skins ($8.90)

Loaded with mixed cheese and crispy pork bacon bits, the Russet Potato Skins is the perfect comforting treat to the peckish stomachs.

Sautéed Mushrooms ($9.90)

King mushrooms sautéed with merlot garlic butter, sprinkled with Parmesan cheese

The Caesar ($12.90)

French romaine lettuce tossed with homemade Caesar dressing, topped with crispy pork bacon bits, croutons and Parmesan cheese –a classic favourite

If you’re on a stringent diet and accompanying a ravenous carnivore, there are several salad options you can choose from while your partner devours the ribs.

Beer-Battered Fish Fillets ($19.90)

Crispy deep-fried fish fillets in their special beer batter, served with coleslaw, French fries and tangy tartar sauce

Fish lovers won’t feel left out too; piscatorial pleasures include the Beer-Battered Fish Fillets. Being a huge fan of fish and chips, I have zero complaints with Morganfield’s version.

Smokehouse Bacon Cheeseburger ($22.90)

Grilled and glazed with hickory BBQ sauce, topped with Cheddar cheese, caramelised onions and crispy pork bacon

The Smokehouse Bacon Cheeseburger did not disappoint. The beef patty is perfectly moist and juicy. Complemented with their hickory BBQ sauce, this burger seals the deal.

Chicken Cordon Bleu ($19.90)

Chicken breast stuffed with pork ham and cheese, breaded and deep-fried to crispy golden brown perfection, served with a spicy tomato sauce, red skin mashed potatoes and garden veggies

Smoked Peppercorn Spare Ribs ($24.90)

Served with red skin mashed potatoes and garden veggies

Finally, moving on to their signature selection of ‘Sticky Bones’ – slowly smoked with hickory wood – that come in either a half slab ($24.90) or a full slab ($36.90) with a choice of sauce. Each slab weighs more than 2 pounds!

Grab a bib and get ready to chow down on some ribs!

The Smoked Peppercorn Spare Ribs gives a spicy hit of black pepper without being too overwhelming. The slow-cooking method ensures tender fall-off-the-bone ribs.

Tuscan Baked Spicy Spare Ribs ($24.90)

Served with red skin mashed potatoes and garden veggies

If you love tang and spice, the Tuscan Baked Spicy Spare Ribs will please your palates; the ribs are oven roasted with a spicy tomato sauce.

They manage to achieve the fall-off-the-bone-tender consistency in every serving of ribs. You can’t go wrong with ribs at Morganfield’s.

Corporate Platter for 5 people ($30 per person)

Amongst the selection of ribs, the star for me is the Hickory BBQ Spare Ribs. Slow-cooked with hickory smoke, grilled and basted with a sweet and tangy hickory BBQ sauce with a hint of cider, this truly authentic, old-fashioned prime pork rib is finger-licking good.

Corporate Platter for 5 people ($30 per person)

For a party of five, consider ordering the Corporate Platter. It comprises two half-slabs of ribs, a 250g-steak, half a Tequila Spiked Chicken, fries, three baked potatoes, four assorted sausages and a triptych of sauces to accompany.

The Tequila Spiked Chicken is marinated with spicy tequila and lime parprika, char-grilled to succulent perfection.

Homemade Apple Pie ($9.90)

The portion sizes at Morganfield’s are substantial –dessert is no exception. The Homemade Apple Pie is nicely executed, albeit a tad heavy on the stomach especially after all that ribs.

Chocolate Lava Cake ($13.90)

I highly recommend the Chocolate Lava Cake. Though being stuffed to the brim (which I thought was my maximum), I managed to find a tiny spot in my tummy for this dessert. It is perfectly soft and molten on the inside, screaming of intense richness of the dark chocolate without being too cloying. I finished this to the last speck… It left me wanting more!
