–“Festive at Open House”

Open House is a modern restaurant located on the forth floor of , offering all day dining daily with both international buffet and a-la-carte menus.

My first impression of the restaurant was: chic, classy, neat, and… where’s the food, is that it?

Supposedly a buffet restaurant, I imagined there to be an abundance of food where ravenous diners pile on their plates and vie for the last morsel, awaiting fresh replenishments thereafter.

This isn’t the case for Open House.

Striving for quality and not quantity, they maintain the freshness of the food by offering live stations, where diners are treated to piping-hot food that are fresh from the stove/oven –such as freshly made pizzas and cooked-to-order claypot dishes.

Dinner highlights: Seafood on Ice, Roasted Prime Ribs with Red Wine, Oven Baked Kurobuta Rack of Pork, Confit of Cod Fillet, Honey Smoked Duck with Raspberries and Sautéed Scallops with XO Sauce.


Australian Rack of Lamb with Dried Fruit & Nut Crust ($98+)

For intimate home parties, you can conveniently order takeaway items such as the Australian Rack of Lamb with Dried Fruit & Nut Crust ($98+), Low-temperature Braised Turkey with Soya & Blue Ginger ($98+), Roasted New Zealand Beef Rib Eye with Truffle Mousseline Potato in Natural Jus ($88+), Coffee Baby Pork Ribs and Baked Onions with Melted Gruyere Cheese ($48+), Roasted Chicken with Lingonberries Sauces, Asparagus & Egg Salad ($38+) and Christmas Flourless Trunk Cake ($48+).

For a larger party, opt for the lavish Christmas Gourmet Hamper ($480+) to impress your guests. The hamper includes Honey Glazed Ham with Orange & Star Anise, Low-temperature Braised Turkey with Soya & Blue Ginger, Stir-fried Shitake Mushroom with Chinese Baby Endives, and Fried Rice with Seafood & Fried Conpoy. The Macallan Single Malt will get glasses clinking, while the divine desserts – including their Signature Dark Chocolate Banana & Pecan Mousse Log Cake, Assorted Christmas Cookies, Christmas Pralines and Caramelised Winter Fruits – will get those with a sweet tooth jumping with joy.

Apart from the festive specialties, diners can also enjoy Open House’s signature ‘live stations’, roast meats and dim sum that are available throughout the year.

Fresh from the oven! There are quite a few options to choose from; some of which are Terriyaki, Margherita and Hawaiian. Thin crust pizzas for the win.


Braised pork and sea cucumber

The claypot station is one of my favourite live stations there. There are items like claypot rice, braised pork and sea cucumber and fish curry.

The fish curry was a highlight for me –I think I ordered 3 or 4 portions! Served to the table piping hot, the fish is cooked to tender perfection, well infused in the aromatic curry that isn’t cloyingly heavy. It is a must-have.

Another favourite would be the roasted meats section. I usually take no notice of roasted meats at buffets, because most of them look stale and unappealing.

Open House’s impresses with well-marinated meats roasted to succulent perfection. They deserve a round of applause for this! Highly recommended.

I love dim sums! The variety isn’t extensive (after all this isn’t a dim sum restaurant) but they’ve got all my favourite dim sum items so I’m not complaining at all.

Plump siew mai and har gows are generously packed with fresh succulent prawn –yum cha restaurant-worthy.

I also enjoyed the Steamed Glutinous Rice in Lotus Leaf and the Pan-fried Radish Cake. They’re just pure comfort food!

Strawberry Shortcake

The Strawberry Shortcake is a personal favourite, but only because I love the thick layer of cream between the two layers of light sponge cake. Though the ratio of cream to cake looks like a lot, the cream is not as heavy as it seems. The fresh fruit and alternate layers offer a balance to help cut the richness overall.
