Decked out in Chinese New Year ornaments, flowers and vibrant shades of red, it isn’t hard to guess what Plaza Brasserie’s (ever-changing) theme is this season! Available from 28 January to 24 February 2013, the Prosperity Buffet Feast will satiate your deepest cravings, with an abundance of festive delicacies.
Fruity Yu Sheng
Embark on the endless feastings with the Yu Sheng to start, requisite at Lunar New Year celebrations.
At Plaza Brasserie, Yu Sheng has taken on a fruity persona. This novel creation symbolises an abundance of wealth and a well-rounded life, comprising mandarin oranges, peaches, rose apples, rock melon, dried persimmons, green mango and papaya. Chef Jackson has formulated his very own fruit flavoured sauce in replacement of the typical plum sauce.
Traditional Yu Sheng will also be available for conventional palates.
And since we are talking about a buffet line, feel free to build on with what’s available at the buffet spread; grab more slices of sashimi to add to your Yu Sheng. If you’re mischievous (like me) and would like to stir up some jealousy, snap a photo and send it over to your friends who are dining elsewhere! They would be sulking with barely enough sashimi on their plates. Heehee!
At Chef’s live station, you can look forward to the Mini Pen Cai featuring fish maw, prawns, sea cucumber, sliced abalone, roast duck, chicken, pork, cabbage and black moss.
Steamed Red Garoupa (available only for dinner)
Kitty instincts never fail to entail upon me whenever I’m here; the feline buffet station pleases my ingrained needs for the piscatorial. Meow! Plaza Brasserie one place where I can have a whole entire fish to devour all by myself! And even ask for seconds.
Fish Maw Soup with Shredded Abalone or Fish Maw Soup with Crab Meat and Sea Cucumber
Soups during this festive season alternate between the Fish Maw Soup with Shredded Abalone and the Fish Maw Soup with Crab Meat and Sea Cucumber. A western-style soup is also available to cater to international palates –it was cream of carrot on the night that I went.
Fried Beancurd with Chicken Floss
Chicken Salad with Bak Kwa
What else you can expect at the buffet spread: Eight Treasures Boneless Duck, Braised Long Cabbage with Dried Scallops, Chilli Crab, Poached “Live” Prawns with Chinese Wine, Beef with Spicy Sauce, Braised Pork Knuckle with Dried Oyster and Black Moss, Crispy Roasted BBQ Pork, Roast Duck, Soy Chicken, Oatmeal Prawns or Butter Prawns, Eight Treasure Sticky Rice, Fried Hong Kong Noodles, Golden Fried Rice with Crabmeat and Spring Onions, Stir Fried Asparagus with Crabmeat in “XO” Sauce, Diced Chicken with Leek, Mushroom and Sweet Peas, Braised Sea Cucumber with Roasted Pork and Stir Fried Spicy King Prawns.
The Pork Belly on Steamed Bun evokes nostalgic memories for me. My late grandmother used to make these. The pork belly is delightfully moist and tender. I’m craving for some as I’m typing this!
Chilli Crab
I’m still unable to master the art of eating crab, but I sooooo love the sauce. Deep-fried mantous are available for your dipping pleasures. Can’t stop at one!
Fried Rice with Preserved Meat wrapped in Lotus Leaf
The Fried Rice with Preserved Meat wrapped in Lotus Leaf is lightly seasoned; hence it doesn’t overwhelm your palate. Imbued with the fragrance of its ingredients and the lotus leaf, this dish had many at the table nodding in approval.
When it comes to sweet treats, typical Chinese New Year goodies such as the love letters, pineapple tartlets, lotus and red date candies, almond cookies, lotus seed candies and walnut cookies are accompanied by some of Chef’s creations, including durian nian gao with bak kwa and traditional egg tarts.
I enjoyed the Pumpkin Mousse Cake!
Hot desserts include the sesame glutinous rice balls in red bean soup.
The egg tarts are a must-have!
Durian Nian Gao with Bak Kwa
As for the unavoidable nian gao, Plaza Brasserie offers a unique take.
On 9 February 2013, a Chinese New Year banquet dinner will also be available. Look forward to a lion dance performance, tea appreciation performance by the Si Chuan Dou Hua tea master and the God of Fortune who will be making a guest appearance to celebrate Lunar New Year with guests.
