Sun Ray Café; Amour Valentine’s Day Set Dinner (13-14 February 2013)

Valentine’s Day is a special occasion to not only express your love to your valentine, but to also commemorate the love and affection your furry pals have showered you throughout the times of desolation.

With such loveable canines and felines to dine with, three is never a crowd –this could potentially be the only time when double dates (you and your date, your pet and your date’s pet) are most gladly consented to!

If don’t have a pet but have always loved being around animals, you are most welcome to soak in the cheery atmosphere at Sun Ray Café.

Check out what my ’s favourite pet-friendly café has to offer this Valentine’s Day.

Instead of fixing a standard price, Sun Ray Café offers three choices of set dinners ranging from $30+ per pax to $45+ per pax; the price you pay for is determined by the entrée you choose. Each set comes with a drink, starter, soup, entrée and dessert.

Drink; Choice of a glass of Signature Mocktail Mellini OR House Wine

The sparkling mocktail, sweet and fruity, whets the appetite for the upcoming courses. I could barely contain my eagerness to consume the maraschino cherry at the bottom of the glass; I drank at a relatively fleeting speed just so I could get to it sooner! Thankfully it’s not spiked with alcohol!

Starter; Smoked Salmon Salad

For starters, you don’t have any option other than to consume your greens. (Hey! It’s good for you!) The Smoked Salmon Salad comes with fresh greens, cherry tomatoes and avocado, drizzled with a light walnut dressing. Although I love the cohesive coalition of smoked salmon, avocado and cherry tomatoes, I found this salad to be lacking a crunchy element –incorporating pine nuts should do the trick.

Soup; Cuppa’ Mushroom

I drank the Cuppa’ Mushroom to the last drop, desisting from licking the vessel clean, and almost tempted to order a second serving. Need I say more?

Entrée Option (A); Australian Seared Steak (4-Course Set Dinner at $45+ per pax)

Australian seared steak marinated in red wine and rosemary served with Lyonnais potato

The clever selection of proteins will cater to diverse palates –there’s red meat, fish and poultry.

For the steak, flavours were spot on, but I would go for a medium-rare as opposed to the thoroughly cooked steak that was served to us. The carbohydrate component saves the situation! It is highly addictive.

Entrée Option (B); Crusted Salmon (4-Course Set Dinner at $35+ per pax)

Sesame crusted salmon served with sweet taro mash

Another noteworthy carbohydrate component spotted –sweet taro mash. I’m so inspired to replicate this dish in my home kitchen. The sesame crust adds crunchiness to this fish without the greasiness. Points awarded for novelty!

Entrée Option (C); Honey-Glazed Spring Chicken (4-Course Set Dinner at $30+ per pax)

Grilled honey glazed spring chicken served with oven-roasted potatoes

The Honey-Glazed Spring Chicken happens to be my favourite out of the three. I tend to be bias, in favour of fish, but the chicken manages to win me over with its moist, juicy meat. The oven-roasted potatoes are irresistible.

Dessert; Choice of Homemade Tiramisu OR Chocolate Lava Cake

For the final course, you can choose between their Homemade Tiramisu and the Chocolate Lava Cake. I didn’t get to try them, but I have a feeling dessert is gonna be good. ;)
