If the pungent distinctive aroma of durian arouses your senses, then the highly anticipated Durian Fest 2013 deserves a prime spot on your calendar. The RWS Invites Durian Fest is back by popular demand, and this year, they are raising the standards to escalate satisfaction to the next level.

Did you know that there are approximately 20 types of durian varieties? The ones sold in Singapore mostly hail from our neighbouring country Malaysia.
The varieties of durian are easily distinguished by texture, taste and size (of fruit and seed). The popular Mao Shan Wang sports a golden-hued flesh, imparts a bittersweet taste, with seeds that are distinctively flat. Jin Feng is another well sought-after variety, for its buttery-yellow flesh encases barely any seed. The Ang Kar that flaunts its pinkish flesh contains small seeds within.
For two nights in August, 23rd and 24th, the world’s biggest premium durian buffet will take place amid a nostalgic hawker setting at The Coliseum at Hard Rock Hotel Singapore, with a total of four sittings, each holding a maximum capacity of 600 guests.
On the menu are seven varieties of durians, including stars like Mao Shan Wang, Ang Kar, Zhu Jiao, Jin Feng and D24. There will also be tropical fruits such as mangosteens, rambutans and jackfruits to counterbalance the richness of durian.
The unceasing excitement of durian indulging continues with durian-eating competitions, occurring at all 4 sessions. How many durians can one eat within 3 minutes? Witness record-breaking durian-eating feats during this once-a-year event.
