NYDC revamped their menu sometime back in July 2013, and now the menu focuses hugely on desserts –there are over 30 dessert items at present.
The vibrant illustrations make flipping the menu engrossing, and the quirky names of the dishes spruces things up.
I Scream Burger ($9.80)
In addition to their signature mudpies that are available in a myriad of flavours, there’s the ‘Choco Cookie Monster’, a triple chocolate delight, ‘I Scream Burger’, a brioche sandwich filled with three scoops of ice cream, and ‘Let’s Get Berry High’, yogurt sorbet with wild berries soaked in red wine.
Hookin’ Brooklyn Chicks ($8.80 for 6 pieces/$14.80 for 12 pieces)
Savoury dishes are divided into two sections, ‘Small Plates’ and ‘Big Plates’, encouraging sharing just so diners have more room for desserts –this further emphasises that desserts are the main focus of the meal at NYDC.
Mushroom Munchies ($7.80 for 6 pieces)
One of a must-order for starters is the Mushroom Munchies. Juicy Portobello mushrooms are topped with ham, garlic mayonnaise and mozzarella, baked to melty cheesy goodness.
Lolli Pork Ribs ($9.80 for 4 pieces)
The Lolli Pork Ribs is one of the highlights. Essentially a mini rack of Spanish pork ribs marinated in a candied cocoa concoction, baked till tender and succulent, doused in dark chocolate sauce that’s sweet and subtly bitter, and topped with chocolate soil for the finishing touch. Chocolate and meat seems like a bizarre combination at first instance, but surprisingly the mastermind behind this recipe successfully match-makes the two unlikely components –the end result didn’t taste odd one bit, boasting an alluring aroma of cocoa in every bite.
Cut The Crab ($9.80 for 4 pieces)
One of my favourite items from the menu would be Cut The Crab –plump patties with generous amount of crabmeat, breaded and deep-fried to golden crispiness. Attention is drawn towards the accompanying creamy peanut butter sauce –an inventive recipe that leaves an impression.
Sunny Grooves ‘N’ Munchy Moves ($15.80)
Piggly Wiggly Burger ($15.80)
Sloppy Joe ($14.80)
Let’s Get Berry High ($9.80)
To end the meal on a light note, Let’s Get Berry High suffices. A refreshing yogurt sorbet is accompanied by wild berries soaked in red wine.
Choco’s Bull Eye ($6.80)
Peanut Butter Crunch Time ($6.80)
The Peanut Butter Crunch Time is a dessert you must try when you visit NYDC. It’s a deeply satisfying and comforting dessert, incorporating a delightful contrast of both hot and cold in a single dish.
Mudpie Extravaganza ($11.80)
Mudpie Extravaganza integrates three of their best-selling mudpies – Cookie Monster, Jedi Monster and Grandma Goes Nuts – hence you get the best of three worlds in a single mudpie.
Boo Boo ($6.80)
Remember Boo Boo? It’s one of their popular all-time favourites –if you haven’t tried it, you should!
