Dessert Buffet at Marble Lounge, Hilton Tokyo

One of the highlights from my recent trip to Tokyo would be the dessert buffet at Marble Lounge, Hilton Tokyo’s 24-hour restaurant nestled on the first floor of the hotel.

In the mornings, this is where guests take their pick from the sumptuous breakfast buffet. From 2.30pm to 6pm, the setting is inundated with all-things-pretty –dessert.

The theme changes every few months. This season, strawberries take centre stage. Plump, red, juicy and sweet –strawberries cultivated in Japan are known for that.

Exceedingly popular with the ladies, one can easily detect the obvious high ratio of female to male in the restaurant during the dessert buffet hours.

Hilton Tokyo uses 4500 strawberries a day on weekdays and a whopping 12,000 on weekends during this period.

The strawberry mille-feuille encompasses light and crisp puff pastry stacked with custard cream in between, topped with a slice of strawberry.

The Japanese pastry chefs have clearly mastered the craft of making French pastries. Combining artistic talents with unrivalled quality, each and every dessert on the buffet line impresses with flair.

Chocolate fondues are common at buffets, but this one at Hilton Tokyo conquers all. Apart from the usual chocolate, there’s the strawberry milk chocolate that is bound to knock your socks off.

Can’t stop emphasising how amazing and outstanding Japanese strawberries are. Coat them in that liquid strawberry milk chocolate –heavenly.

And there’s the all-time favourite macaron. Here it comes in a deep brilliant hue of pink; strawberry flavoured, with cream cheese filling. I forbade myself from counting calories –I can’t even remember how many of these darlings I’ve devoured.

Not forgetting the ethereally light Strawberry Shortcake that mesmerises all.

Garnering a long queue and huge crowd is the Live Ice Cream Station, where entertaining starts from having your ice cream tossed with your chosen toppings before your very eyes.

The picture-perfect buffet spread encompasses over 30 varieties of strawberry desserts including the Strawberry & Lemon Cream Roll Cake, Strawberry Fraisier Cake, Strawberry Charlotte Cake and Strawberry New York Cheesecake.

Marble Lounge has also thoughtfully prepared a small selection of savoury snacks such as sandwiches, soup and light bites, so guests are not overwhelmed by all the sweet goodness.

A much-needed element to alternate between sweet desserts would be a bowl of warm, comforting soup.

The Dessert Buffet is available all year round, 2.30pm to 6pm daily, at 4,200 JPY per person (approximately 50 SGD), which includes complimentary flow of coffee and tea. The strawberry theme is available only from now till 18 May 2014.

This dessert buffet is one of the best of its kind –worth travelling for. A must-visit when in Tokyo.
