Curry Crab

The annual crab buffet feast is back at Plaza Brasserie of PARKROYAL on Beach Road. This year, it coincides with Father’s Day, spanning from 13 June to 27 July 2014. Taking things up a notch from previous years, the buffet spread of crab dishes expands to a whopping 27, including freshly prepared whole crabs in 14 different styles, all of which are available daily throughout this period for your ravenous picking (i.e. non-rotational!).


Crab Kut Teh

An offshoot from the familiar flavours of Bak Kut Teh, the new Crab Kut Teh, served in a claypot, brims with fresh crab stepped in a flavourful broth made of crab shells, pork bones and ‘Bak Kut The’ spices.


Cereal Crab

The Cereal Crab is a personal favourite. I can munch on the crunchy golden cereal aromatised with curry leaves, all day long.


Black Pepper Crab

Gratifying the local taste buds are the Chilli Crab, Black Pepper Crab, Salted Egg Crab, Nonya Crab, XO Crab and Steamed Crab with Dang Gui. Unusual suspects include the Marmite Crab that comes with a dark glossy glaze made of maltose and honey.


Salted Egg Crab

Another favourite of mine would be the Salted Egg Crab –finger-licking good!


Steamed Crab with Dang Gui

Most of the dishes are pretty heavy on flavour. For something light, go for the Steamed Crab with Dang Gui.

Adding to the “Seafood on Ice” experience are more crabs!


Crabmeat Tartlet

Apart from whole crabs, appetising possibilities include the Spicy Crabmeat Salad, Crabmeat Tartlet, Crabmeat Masala and Crabmeat Roti John.

The Crabmeat Tartlet is my top pick! Shredded fresh crabmeat infused with shallots, red chilli and chopped coriander is embedded in a delicate tart shell.

All of these crab delicacies are complemented by their Best of Asia spread, which includes my all-time favourite Steamed Whole Fish (choice of Grouper or Red Snapper), fresh sashimi, oysters, soups, roast meats, another of my all-time favourite the crispy soft shell crab, and desserts.

The quality of the spread has taken a positive turn as compared to previous years, not that it was bad, but it is now noticeably better. I’m definitely booking my seat for the Crab Feast this year!

The Ultimate Crab Feast buffet is available for dinner daily, from 13 June to 27 July 2014, 6pm to 10.30pm, priced at $65++ per adult and $39++ per child.
