Following my previous post of the media preview of Durian Fest 2013, here’s my documentation of the ACTUAL event!
On 23rd and 24th August 2013, the pungent aroma of durian pervaded the massive open space at The Coliseum, Hard Rock Hotel Singapore, at Resorts World Sentosa.
The Coliseum was spaciously decked with rustic wooden makeshift tables and stools to exude a nostalgic hawker aura. The environment was kept constantly clean, thanks to the hardworking crew who let not a single seed of fruit or litter off. Trash baskets were cleared frequently (so nobody knows exactly how many durians we’ve consumed! Hehe).
There are staffs walking around to assist and take orders for durians, but attendees could also walk up to the ‘World’s Largest Stack of Durians’ and request for their favourite varieties from the durian experts.
The attentive staffs would come around to check if we need further assistance in prying open the durian shell to more golden treasures within.
Durian Fest also puts relationships to the test! If your other half refuses to kiss you after the durian feasting, then…. EAT MORE DURIAN!
The durian eating competition attracted a lot of attention! The winners were given entry tickets to Universal Studios Singapore. I would SOOO LOVE to go to the action-packed theme park!!!! But my durian-eating skills are not exceptional, especially when speed is involved. Oh wells!
The snaking queues are evidence of how popular Durian Fest is! There are a total of 4 sessions, with each seating a maximum of 100 pax.
Apart from durians, there were also plenty of seasonal fruits such as jackfruit, mangosteen and rambutans to counterbalance the richness (or heatiness) of durian.
For just $88 per adult, I ate like at least $400 worth of Mao Shan Wang durians!!! Mao Shan Wang is my favourite durian variety and all I ate was heaps of that. Where else can you find such a good deal?!?!? And RWS Invites members get a huge $30 discount, paying just $58 for unlimited free-flow of premium quality durians.
