Carré Pain d’Epices –Spice Breads for all occasions

An icon of the French gastronomy, Pain d’Epices is pronounced as pah(n) deh-pees, and means spice bread or honey bread in French.

Carré Pain d’Epices combines flavours from the West and Asia to cater to local palates. The brand is conceived jointly by the enthusiastic and passionate Delphine Giron Le Martin and Beatrice Burguet, who hail from southwestern France and eastern France respectively. They value authenticity and the quality of ingredients; hence the recipe is kept close to the origins, and remains eggless, dairy-free and fat-free.

The Carré Pain d’Epices collection comprises four flavours: original, mango, ginger and chocolate chip.

Special seasonal editions include the Tangerine for Chinese New Year, which is certain to be a huge hit during the festive season. Bits of candied tangerine add texture and citrusy tang to the subtly spiced honey bread.

First-timers can start with the Original flavour, where the flavour of the spice blend is more pronounced. There are countless of serving suggestions, but the fuss-free ones are simply with jam, chocolate sauce or butter.

Other flavours consist of additional ingredients vying for the palate’s attention; hence the flavour of the spice blend is slightly subdued. The Mango flavour needed some time getting accustomed to, but it was after several pieces that it soon overtook the Choocolate Chip and made its way to first place in my books.

The Chocolate Chip made a connection with me instantly, and I reckon it would with most chocolate lovers. Moreover, it’s a healthier alternative to biscuits or cakes.

The texture of the honey spiced bread is dense and compact without being dry. When scattered with chocolate chunks, chocolate lovers would be reaching out for more after each piece.
