–“Festive at Open House”

Open House is a modern restaurant located on the forth floor of , offering all day dining daily with both international buffet and a-la-carte menus.

My first impression of the restaurant was: chic, classy, neat, and… where’s the food, is that it?

Supposedly a buffet restaurant, I imagined there to be an abundance of food where ravenous diners pile on their plates and vie for the last morsel, awaiting fresh replenishments thereafter.

This isn’t the case for Open House.

Striving for quality and not quantity, they maintain the freshness of the food by offering live stations, where diners are treated to piping-hot food that are fresh from the stove/oven –such as freshly made pizzas and cooked-to-order claypot dishes.

Spice Market Café –A must-visit buffet restaurant in Penang

Spice Boutique – located at the entrance of Spice Market Café – houses an array of over 100 varieties of dried herbs and exotic spices, together with an assortment of curry powders, which will ignite your culinary imagination in a whirlwind tour. They are available for purchase, or simply for your exploration pleasures –to expand your knowledge on the diverse range and endless applications. Herbs and spices are great for enhancing the flavour of your dishes without adding artificial flavourings or fat.

Spice Market Café is an informal buffet-style restaurant, marketed as international, but tends to be heavily Asian influenced. The restaurant is pork-free, although obtaining a Halal certificate still poses a challenge for them, especially for items like sashimi.

One thing that disappointed me was the lack of traditional Penang cuisine, but the scrumptious spread made up for it. After all, we’re in Penang, and you can get Penang food everywhere else.

The spread is determined by the season and availability of ingredients, but variety and quality are two factors that remain consistent.

I visited on 19 November 2012 (Monday): Continue reading

Good Ol’ Days Buffet at Silver Shell Cafe, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort

Hope you enjoyed yourselves on 9 August 2012, the celebration of Singapore’s 47th birthday –whether you were waving a flag amongst the audiences at the National Day Parade with pride, or watching the live telecast in the comforts of your own couch, singing along to the national day songs that are entrenched in our hearts, or watching the spectacular fireworks from a hotel room perched at the high floors of the Marina Bay Sands –this patriotic holiday is an opportunity to bond with friends and family.

Melicacy was having a feast at Silver Shell Café, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort.

Every Thursday in August and September, Silver Shell Café transforms into a nostalgic event, presenting “Good Ol’ Days” –a showcase of old-time favourite hawker fare, childhood games of yesteryear and cultural performances.

Children and youths of today can get a glimpse into the culture of the olden days of Singapore, leaving with a deeper understanding of what their parents and grandparents lived with, and the toys they played with when they were young.

Feast@East Buffet Restaurant celebrates National Day

Singapore’s 47th birthday calls for a huge celebration of feasting, and more feasting, at Feast @ East Buffet Restaurant. In the entire month of August, the limelight is on Hawker Galore.

Standing proud at the entrance of the restaurant is a Merlion statue, Singapore’s iconic emblem.

The patriotic spirit is not only apparent in the buffet theme but also in the restaurant’s décor –the buffet station is festooned with mini-sized flags that will invoke fond memories of past National Day Parades.

The ‘live’ cooking station is where you will find your favourite hawker delights –food that defines our culture and what makes us uniquely Singaporean.

A selection of hot varieties such as Chilli Crab, Sambal Stingray and Ikan Pangang (Grilled Fish in Banana Leaves) are available during dinner.

Check out what I had during lunch!
