(Event coverage) Chic Kiss Love -The Fashion Uprising at Zouk

With countless of blogshops sprouting at an alarming rate, online shoppers are spoilt for choice. Determining the top blogshops hinges greatly to past customers’ testimonials and how swift they are in the fashion league, keeping up with the latest fashion trends.

12 reputable pioneers and better-known blogshops in Singapore – that have gained numerous support and loyal followers – have come together under Chic Kiss Love, a collective fashion house.

On 22 July 2012, Chic Kiss Love presented The Fashion Uprising – a one-day shopping carnival open to the public – at Zouk.

‘Parisian Night’ at Taratata Bistrot

Skirting the fringe of Chinatown, Keong Saik Road is home to a row of well-preserved shopshouses evolved during the British-colonial era –one of which houses Taratata Bistrot.

Taratata Bistrot is a French restaurant that prides itself for its unpretentious, quality French fare with regional focus –presented in their idiosyncratic style.

Working in pair are French bistrotiers, Bertrand Raguin and Philippe Nouzillat, chefs and co-owners of Taratata Bistrot.

Kronenbourg 1664 presents ‘Unmask the Taste of French Summer’

Premium French lager, Kronenbourg 1664, is no stranger to international brewing awards, and has entrenched itself into the hearts of innumerable Singaporeans.

Kronenbourg 1664 has orchestrated a series of exciting parties since its launch on our sunny island in 2009. These are the two events that I’ve attended:

- The launch of ‘1664 Signs of Attraction Facebook application on 24 February 2012. (Read here: https://melicacy.com/?p=3376)
- Kronenbourg 1664 Cupid Party at SkyLoft on 30 March 2012. (Read here: https://melicacy.com/?p=3605)

Favoured for its refreshing taste and fruity overtones, Kronenbourg 1664 BLANC’s fans are legion. Enthusiasts and those new to the beer were invited to the “Unmask the Taste of French Summer” exclusive party at High Society Mansion on 26 July 2012.

High Society is about living the good life, through the enjoyment of music and good food –now, supplemented with excellent beer.

Bedecked in classy fabrics and shiny tiles of deep red, black and white, the jazzy and classy interior accentuates elegance without imposing stringent formality.

Canapés were served throughout the evening alongside free-flow Kronenbourg 1664 BLANC.

Changi Village Hotel by Far East Hospitality

Changi Village Hotel is prudently located away from the bustling city centre, in close proximity to the airport –it makes for a soothing retreat for you and your family to spend quality time together, and is a hot favourite among business travellers and transit passengers arriving for a one or two-day stopover.

Speaking from a local’s point of view, sometimes all you need is a staycation; a getaway to clear your heads; a place to relax, rejuvenate and re-charge your batteries after a long week at school and work; a place to escape from the frantic city life, free from daily responsibilities.

RamenPlay @ Nex

The ramen craze has taken Singapore by storm, and has caught on in Malaysia in recent times, with new ramen joints sprouting prevalently islandwide.

In this ultra-critical city, our conception of chain restaurants being less worthy of attention, and deemed to be average, is clearly misconstrued.

I live in close proximity to Nex, and I visit the mall at least twice a week. I’ve walked past RamenPlay numerous times, sometimes curiously peeking into the restaurant, but never stepped foot inside until now.

Landmark Village Hotel by Far East Hospitality

Singapore Blog Awards 2012 invites 15 international bloggers, from Hong Kong, Malaysia and Philippines to attend the awards ceremony.

Chosen bloggers received a 3D2N hotel accommodation sponsorship in one of the seven participating hotels under Far East Hospitality Hotel & Residences: Oasia Hotel Singapore, The Quincy Hotel, Orchard Parade Hotel, The Elizabeth Hotel, Landmark Village Hotel, Changi Village Hotel and Albert Court Village Hotel.

On top of that, 7 Singaporean omy.sg bloggers were chosen to host them on the 20th and 21st of July, and I was one of them!

I was enthusiastically anticipating their arrival, before our paths crossed for the firsts time at the welcome party held at Landmark Hotel.

Payuk Bali Cooking Class (Part 2: 4 more recipes included)

Continuing from my first Payuk Bali Cooking Class post, here is the second part.

In part one, I mentioned about visiting the local market and rice fields before arriving at our final stop, Payuk Bali Cooking Class, as part of the package.

I also shared 4 recipes; one of which is the Balinese Multipurpose Spice Base –an important component in most of the recipes shared in my post.

As Payuk Bali Cooking Class is held in a traditional family residence, we had the opportunity of interacting with locals staying there.

Language was the main barrier to communication –most of them do not understand or speak English. Our communication with each other is conveyed through body language and genuine smiles.

We stepped into a little hut, where a lady of mild temperament dwells in during the day.

She spends her days roasting coffee beans and extracting coconut oil from fresh coconuts.

Soft-spoken in nature, she barely exchanged more than a few sentences with our guide, Agung, who speaks their native language.

Carnivore Brazilian Churrascaria

To all meat-lovers out there, Carnivore Brazilian Churrascaria is a meaty paradise –a treat to your eyes, your palate and your ravenous appetite.

Churrascaria means ‘barbecue’ in Portugese. Their style of service is basically Brazilian rodizio: you pay a fixed price and passadors (meat waiters) will come to your table with skewers speared with various kinds of meat – slicing it with a knife onto your plate with your consent – several times throughout your meal until you signify that you have had enough by flipping the coloured card from green to red.

Meet the Meat at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort

After its S$80 million makeover, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort unveils a spanking new layout and a new dining concept –“Dine On 3”.

The revamp must be pretty drastic since it is beyond recognisable for someone who’s never been there for 5 years –I blushingly admit that I happen to be in that position.

My parents used to bring my sis and I to Sentosa for staycations when we were younger. We used to stay at both the Rasa Sentosa Resort and Beaufort (The Sentosa Resort & Spa) but more frequently at Rasa Sentosa Resort.

We favour Rasa Sentosa Resort for it is the only beachfront resort in this metropolitan city-state –great for a weekend getaway.

I have fond memories of the resort, especially at the balcony, where the magnificent view of the Siloso Beach and the South China Sea never fails to mesmerise.

The very façade of the resort building (minus the revamped area) brings back lots of memories. Back then, we dined at the Silver Shell Café at least twice a year –it used to be a regular affair until our family broke apart. (Oops, what I actually mean was: everyone’s gotten so busy that we hardly spend time together anymore.) Upon entering the vicinity, a whole series of memories flashed through my mind.

After the revamp, the dining area, rebranded as “Dine On 3”, features three restaurants – Casserole, Silver Shell Café and 8 Noodles – and a bar under one roof, serving up a variety of dining experiences and cuisines.

The Silver Shell Café looks nothing like the old one that we used to frequent. When I checked in on Foursquare, my sis immediately whatsapped me (all the way from Australia), telling me how much she misses the place! Her memory is superb. I didn’t even remember the name of the restaurant!

Wednesdays: Meet the Meat at Silver Shell Café

From June 2012, Silver Shell Café presents Meet the Meat on every Wednesday evening. Meat lovers can revel in an array of poultry, beef, lamb and sausages prepared in various methods –roast, tandoori, grilled and barbecued.

Sentosa BBQ by the Beach

Sentosa celebrates its 40th Anniversary with a spanking BBQ by the Beach extravaganza, featuring various BBQ techniques such as the regular barbeque grill, vertical grill and the traditional Hawaiian underground oven that is known as the ‘imu’.

The open-air environment with unobstructed views of the sea is accompanied by cool sea breeze and therapeutic sounds of waves breaking on the shore.

As night falls, it gets utterly romantic. Catch the spectacular sunset and bask in the moonlight whilst dining with your loved ones.

On to the food….

Weekend Dim Sum Brunch at Mandarin Court

The very mention of Dim Sum and Buffet makes my eyes glint. These are 2 of my favourite things.

Dim Sum is something that I cannot get enough of, and Buffet is something that I always look out for (to satisfy my prodigious appetite). Put the both together: perfecto.

I’ve always thought highly of the Meritus Hotels group and what they have to offer. I was soooo looking forward to the dim sum menu, and all ready to be impressed.

Mandarin Orchard takes the enjoyment of ‘yum cha’ to a higher level, literally. Perched high up on the 35th storey, the spacious restaurant is adorned in an unpretentiously oriental décor, replete with a variety of table settings that will cater to both the communal dining and small intimate groups.

The extensive choice of over 80 dim sum delights will excite many palates.
