Spice Market Café –A must-visit buffet restaurant in Penang

Spice Boutique – located at the entrance of Spice Market Café – houses an array of over 100 varieties of dried herbs and exotic spices, together with an assortment of curry powders, which will ignite your culinary imagination in a whirlwind tour. They are available for purchase, or simply for your exploration pleasures –to expand your knowledge on the diverse range and endless applications. Herbs and spices are great for enhancing the flavour of your dishes without adding artificial flavourings or fat.

Spice Market Café is an informal buffet-style restaurant, marketed as international, but tends to be heavily Asian influenced. The restaurant is pork-free, although obtaining a Halal certificate still poses a challenge for them, especially for items like sashimi.

One thing that disappointed me was the lack of traditional Penang cuisine, but the scrumptious spread made up for it. After all, we’re in Penang, and you can get Penang food everywhere else.

The spread is determined by the season and availability of ingredients, but variety and quality are two factors that remain consistent.

I visited on 19 November 2012 (Monday): Continue reading

NYDC

Do you still remember the NYDC outlet outside The Heeren? It was a favourite hangout spot for teenagers back in those days. That was my first memory of NYDC. My friends who used to hang out there rave about the mudpies all the time. Those days will remain as memories though, as NYDC has moved out of the Heeren precinct. If you’re craving for mudpies in the orchard vicinity, head to the nearest outlet at Wheelock Place.

Their very first outlet (and also their flagship outlet) is in –which was launched 17 years ago in 1995. Today, NYDC has six outlets islandwide and has ventured into the international market, with six outlets overseas.

To commemorate its “Super Sweet 17”, it introduces more than 20 new items on the menu.

What will the ‘Water Snake Year’ bring for us?

I’m never the kind who believes in the extraordinary, the supernatural, or the unknown; I am probably the least religious person you’d ever know. But Feng Shui is not something I would dismiss as mere superstition. I’m still baffled by the science and studies behind it, but it is through experience that I know it actually works.

This article is a general guide for the upcoming year, 2013, which is derived from studies and calculations based on previous decades and centuries.

The Stellar Experience

It was a year ago when I last visited Stellar at 1-Altitude… it was one of my best dining experiences ever.

Remarkable food coupled with spectacular views, it is only befitting to name the restaurant Stellar.

This year, I’m back for their new Stellar Experience –it is an inspiring new dining experience that brings creativity and interaction to the table, leaving diners with lasting memories.

The Stellar Experience begins from the very moment you enter the premises. You take a minutes-long lift ride up to the highest point – which is also the highest rooftop bar in Singapore on level 63, known for its unobstructed 360-degree view – to enjoy pre-dinner aperitifs at a specially designated corner of 1-Altitude bar and gallery, on ‘The Edge’.

Watch the sky change colours as the sun begins to set…

The sky then showers the rooftop bar with its glimmering moonlight and shimmering stars. Accompanied by fine libations, you don’t need a reason to propose a toast.

After enjoying a tipple of two, diners proceed to the dining area on level 62, to embark on a gastronomic experience that will be no less magnificent than anticipated.

The new Stellar Experience offers a whole new level of fine dining, allowing diners to design their own 4,5 or 6-course meal from a well thought out tasting menu, with more than 15 exquisite dishes to choose from –comprising newly crafted dishes accompanied by a few Stellar signatures.

The pricings are as follows: $95++ per person for 4 courses, $120++ per person for 5 courses, $140++ per person for 6 courses.
